How long for aggregate sealer to dry

What have you sued before? Have an aggregate cement exposed porch to seal but want to avoid a slippery surface. We had an exposed aggregate patio poured three days ago. When we power washed off the Top Cast surface retardant it was a gorgeous unveiling! The La Paz stone we had seeded it with looked beautiful and the concrete had a nice dark gray color. Then it dried…and it looks so white and the stone just looks like spots with little color. I want to seal it but my husband is concerned about it looking glossy and artificial.

Also, we are both concerned about how it will wear with a sealer. I have an aggregate patio and driveway, both 14 years old. There are a few stains on both, candle wax, antifreeze and oil.

I power washed them and nothing came off. Can I get a tinted sealer the eliminate the appearance of the stains? Can I seal a flagstone patio, that has stone dust between stones? You cannot use the same sealer for flagstone though. You would need a concrete water repellent like SuperSeal-M. We had an exposed aggregate patio installed in January. There were a few stains from fertilizer that happened accidently. We managed to clean most of it up with Goof Off Rust remover but there was some discoloration remaining.

We hired a concrete restoration company and he used some muractic acid and power washed the patio. As the patio was drying the area with the problem stayed dark looking.

He came back about 5 hours later because we were concerned. He said he could not explain why this happened. He thought maybe sealing it would fix the problem since it would … Read more ». Sounds like it was not dry or neutralize. Strip off the sealer and then pressure wash and neutralize the entire area. Make sure it is even before resealing. I checked the driveway and it was dry except where small cavity's had formed. This is where the sealer is still gummy after 3 … Read more ».

Hard to say as all brands are different in how they cure. I would suggest calling the manufacturer of the sealer you used for some advice on this one.

We used the Super Seal 30 for a wet look on our patio with the Sure Grip added to it. Now we have white spots that are kind of milky looking and the additive to make it non slip doesn't look great either.

We were told to mix it right into the Super Sealer and we mixed it very well. How can I fix this? Both the milky look and the grainey additive? Not sure on the additive but the milky white spots can be fixed by applying a solvent. A-1 Solvent or xylene should work. Spray on to a clean and dry surface.

Let dry and it will look like new. So the white spots disappeared but the super grip to make it non slip is blotchy and inconsistent. Would xylene help to remove the granules that are grouped together an can we then put sealer over it if we could remove them. Never tried to spot fix something like this where the grip was applied inconsistently. I doubt it would work but worth a shot as the alternative is to strip it all off. To resolve the issue with the clumps of grains from the Super Grip I ended up using my electric sander and gently sanded them down.

I had to do this to the entire patio. After, we added another coat of the Sealer and it looks great! Other cure times include light foot traffic which is usually 24 hours after the concrete coating has been applied, and the re-coat time which is the window to re-coat an epoxy floor coating or a urethane coating without having to de-gloss it.

If you wait too long to apply a urethane top coat after applying an epoxy base coat you will need to lightly sand the top of it before applying the top coating in order to get good adhesion. Decorative concrete sealers have the shortest dry time of hours since the are topical. Solvent based acrylic concrete sealers are usually dry to the touch in hours depending on the time of application and the relative humidity. Water based acrylic concrete sealers are usually dry to the touch in hours depending on the time of application and the relative humidity.

It provides a semi-transparent brown tint that helps to bring out the natural characteristics of the aggregate below. The high-gloss coating is UV resistant and helps to reduce concrete dusting, staining, hot-tire pickup, mold, mildew and efflorescence.

The brown tint allows for a uniform look that darkens the exposed surface. It helps hold the aggregate pebbles in place, reduces pitting and extends the life of exposed aggregate concrete. Depending on weather and traffic, when using an acrylic sealer exposed aggregate concrete should be sealed every 12 to 36 months.

Clean and apply Before applying either a penetrating or topical sealer, you must clean the exposed aggregate concrete. After cleaning the concrete, allow a day to dry. Once the concrete is dry, begin the sealing process. If the project is a driveway, start by the garage door entrance working toward the road making sure not to step in the sealer.

Apply sealer quickly to avoid any overlaps and roll marks. This is typically between and square feet per gallon. Let the sealer dry for one to four hours for foot traffic and 24 to 48 hours for car traffic.

Questions from Readers Question Can the aggregate be refreshed so that it still maintains a non-slip surface? What would you recommend? If the previous sealer was an acrylic, it might be a good idea to use a stripper to remove the old sealer along with any mildew and dirt that may have accumulated. We offer a product via the ConcreteDecorStore. You simply cut squares of the supplied fabric, lay it on top of each concrete pad, and roller-apply the stripper.

Siliconate sealers are used for damage repair and to prevent deterioration of the concrete. It also prevents staining caused by water absorption from snowing and subsequently, when the snow melts. This type of sealer can reduce the formation of mold and mildew. Siliconate water repellent sealers strengthen the concrete from within without changing its look or color. This is why it appears to look dry from the surface within the first 30 minutes but in reality, it continues to do its work underneath for at least 24 hours.

Although you can walk on the concrete hours after it has been sealed with siliconate, it is advised that it remains dry for at least 36 hours to allow the sealer to set completely.

Silane-siloxane sealers, like the previous type of sealer mentioned, are also used for preventing discoloration from water absorption.

Again, the sealer does its job under the surface so you can see it drying up from the surface but underneath, it may still be reacting. Within the first 30 minutes, the sealer will dry off from the surface; but below the surface, it may continue to work for at least 72 hours. You can walk on the surface within a few hours but ensure that the concrete remains dry for at least 36 hours so the sealer has ample time to react. Solvent based Silane-Siloxane products are also known to quicker to dry than the water based formulas.

Epoxy coatings are perfect for protecting indoor concrete surfaces. As to how long the coating will take to dry, it depends on the kind of epoxy coating being used. Your best bet would be to speak to the manufacturer and find out the details specific to the product you are using.

Typically, it takes about 10 to 12 hours to dry off from the surface but it will continue to harden and solidify for at least 48 hours. It is advised though that you should not walk, drive on , or wet the epoxy coating for 36 to 48 hours, at least. Acrylic sealers can be used for both interior and exterior concrete.
